Fairfield Industries wins 2006 Helios “Partnership” Award

Houston, Texas – December 18, 2006 – Fairfield Industries announced today that BP has awarded its 2006 Global Helios Partnership Award to the Atlantis OBS Node Project, for which Fairfield Industries was the prime contractor. This annual award selected from nearly 1500 BP nominations from across the globe recognizes the knowledge and value that such partnerships bring to BP. This project entitled, “Imaging the invisible – beating the seismic challenge to see beneath salt”, was judged as the best example of “looking beyond traditional ways of doing business and beyond constraints of conventional thinking to create new possibilities.”

In recognizing what this partnership achieved, one of BP’s 2006 global judges commented, “This has not been done before, it has all been achieved from scratch and the results are dramatic. It goes beyond and can be applied elsewhere.”

Fairfield Industries designed and manufactured the world’s first commercial deepwater, wide-azimuth nodal seismic data acquisition system in partnership with BP. The Atlantis partnership, comprised of BP as operator and BHP Billiton, commissioned the world’s deepest 3D seafloor survey over the giant deepwater Atlantis Field in the Gulf of Mexico to improve subsalt imaging. The Z 3000 system proved extremely reliable in its first application in these challenging conditions.

The BP award also recognizes the contributions of other industry partners in the team led by Fairfield Industries. Canyon Offshore deployed and recovered the nodes in water depths exceeding 2000 meters and Geo Century provided state-of-the-art subsea navigation to guide the ROVs.

The Z 3000 node system is comprised of individual self-contained nodes with no external connections or moving parts, thereby eliminating potential operational problems or failures. Each node is rated for water depths of up to 3,000 meters and utilizes flash memory and state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery packs for cost effective operations.

Fairfield Industries is headquartered in Sugar Land, Texas and offers a complete suite of seismic imaging services – from data acquisition to visualization. Privately held, Fairfield Industries is the leader in cable free acquisition system manufacturing and maintains the largest bottom-referenced, multi-client 3D seismic database in the Gulf Coast.
