Fairfield Industries Announces Sale of Z Land® System to Signal Hill Petroleum, Inc.
Houston, December 15, 2009 – Fairfield Industries announced today that Long Beach, California-based Signal Hill Petroleum, Inc. has purchased a Z Land® nodal seismic data acquisition system designed and manufactured by Fairfield Industries.
Signal Hill’s purchase of the entirely cable-free Z Land nodal system closely followed the company’s successful completion of a 2-D seismic survey using Z Land in the congested urban locale of the Long Beach/Signal Hill oilfield, where Signal Hill currently is the principle operator.
“We’re really excited to have consummated our contract with Fairfield Industries for the purchase of the Z Land nodal seismic data recording system,” said Dave Slater, executive vice president and COO at Signal Hill Petroleum. “We’re excited about the operational efficiency of the system, and we’re extremely pleased with the quality of the data acquired in our earlier 2-D survey using Fairfield Industries’ Z Land nodal system.”
Steve Mitchell, Vice President and Division Manager of the Systems Division at Fairfield Industries, commented, “Our lightweight Z Land nodal system was designed for rapid deployment and high production and was developed specifically for dry land operations where it boasts a small footprint.”
“Z Land nodes are especially suited for deployment in both rugged terrain and densely-populated urban environments,” Mitchell noted, “which makes it the system-of-choice for use in Signal Hill’s operations in the Long Beach area.”
Slater said the plan is to have their newly-acquired Z Land nodal system field-operational in the first quarter of next year.
“The initial project will be a relatively small 3-D followed by a larger 3-D at the Long Beach/Signal Hill field where we estimate there’s up to two billion barrels of oil still in place in this giant old field, which already has produced one billion barrels,” Slater said. “Modern seismic technology has not been applied to most of the Los Angeles Basin, and the issue has long been how to conduct seismic operations in this very dense urban environment.”
